Bio

Sarah received her D.M.A. in flute performance from Louisiana State University in 2011, where she was the graduate teaching assistant in flute. She also holds a M.M. and a B.M. in flute performance from Wichita State University. Here at W.S.U., Sarah was also the graduate teaching assistant. Her teachers include Dr. Katherine Kemler and Dr. Frances Shelly. For over 10 years, Sarah has taught private lessons, masterclasses, as well as serving as an ensemble coach and judge at solo festivals and competitions. After completing her doctorate, Sarah began a new journey to heal and recover from a severe jaw joint disorder which made playing her flute physically impossible. After undergoing many years of orthodontics, and physical therapy Sarah began her journey back to flute playing. Now after making a full recovery, she is excited to rejoin the music community and begin playing and teaching again. Dr. Wessley is a passionate educator that works with intermediate and advanced students and specializes in TMJ issues for flutists.
